First head rolls in Paulista

After just a single round of São Paulo’s state championship, one coach is already looking for a new job.
On Thursday evening, Estevam Soares was sacked by Portuguesa after their 1-0 defeat to Guarani. Soares had been in charge at the club since August 2008 and was at the helm when the Canindé outfit crashed into Série B of the Campeonato Brasileiro in December. Mário Sérgio has already been appointed as Soares’ replacement.
Last season, 11 of the 20 clubs in the Campeonato Paulista changed coach at least once. Five teams went through three different managers over 19 games. Noroeste’s José Carlos Fescina was the first to go in 2008 but he survived all the way to round two.

Do Brazilian coaches get their entire contract paid off when they’re axed? It seems like easy money if they do!

i should imagine they do or at least they come to some kind of agreement (eventually) haha. but most coaches are on relatively short contracts anyway
