A 1-1 draw against Santos in the Pacaembu was enough for Corinthians to claim their 26th Campeonato Paulista title.

Santos arrived needing three goals after losing the first leg 3-1 in the Vila Belmiro. A blatant dive by Kléber Pereira earned his side a penalty. And the striker stepped up to convert and give Santos a remote chance.

Moments later, though, André Santos latched onto a pass from Dentinho to beat Fábio Costa on his near post and effectively end the game as a contest.

Domingos was later sent off for Santos but despite having a three-goal cushion in their favour, Corinthians continued to play a containment game.

The tie, however, nearly ended in tragedy after a firework struck William in the post match celebrations. The Corinthians captain was covered in paper ribbons and almost went up in flames.
