No 20 day holiday in Manchester for Douglas Costa

No 20 day holiday in Manchester for Douglas Costa

According to a report in Brazil’s Globoesporte.com, Grêmio have turned down an apparent proposal by Manchester United to take Douglas Costa on a short loan period. The Reds wanted to get a real look at the 18-year-old before deciding to make a heavy investment in the player.

Grêmio, though, have already rejected the idea out of hand. “We said to them [Manchester United] that this doesn’t exist.  Douglas isn’t in a training programme anymore and won’t go through this type of situation”, Grêmio president, Duda Kroeff, is quoted as saying.

I heard he stsrted only his fourth game last week and got sent off after 20 minutes. United don’t want another nutter like Kleberson, so I don’t blame them for being cautious. 20M for a YouTube commodity is too risky! What do you think,Jon?

he’s made five appearances in this Brasileiro – 14 appearances all season (since January here) – no goals. under the previous coach, Celso Roth (who is now with table toppers Atlético Mineiro) Costa hardly even got on the bench. now Paulo Autuori’s at Grêmio, he features a bit more (maybe because there’s pressure to sell him?). as i’ve said before, i’ve not seen him do anything special. 20 million quid is far too much (now at least) and it would be a huge gamble.
wouldn’t worry about the bookings and sendings off – refs here are crap. even Kaká was booked a lot when he played in Brazil.

Costa gets sent off about 1:28 in the video – http://video.globo.com/Videos/Player/Esportes/0,,GIM1058800-7824-MELHORES+MOMENTOS+DE+FLUMINENSE+X+GREMIO+PELA+RODADA+DO+CAMPEONATO+BRASILEIRO,00.html

I don’t see the point of all these youtube comments above. Maybe you haven’t noticed but Man Utd isn’t your run of the mill operation. I doubt that youtube is trusted over their scouting network in Brazil. Some reports have said that Utd have been scouting Douglas Costa for over a year.

I think that if they could pick him up for 10 milllion he would already be on his way to Old Trafford. However, such a big investment requires a degree of certainty that he will succeed.

Probably they should go fro Taison instead.
