Brazil have brought in reinforcements for Wednesday’s World Cup qualifying match vs Chile in the Estádio de Pituaçu in Salvador.
Centreback André Dias (São Paulo) and midfielders Cleiton Xavier and Diego Souza (both Palmeiras) will receive their first caps. Diego Tardelli (Atlético Mineiro) has appeared just once for the national side.
André Dias has lived in the shadow of teammate and Brazil international, Miranda, for some time, but the 30-year-old has been a solid performer for São Paulo over the past three seasons and is finally getting the recognition he deserves.
The Palmeiras pair of Cleiton Xavier and Diego Souza have been in fine form for their club this year. Xavier has had a hand in the majority of the goals scored by the Palestra Itália side. Souza is ranked amongst the most talented players currently operating in Brazil. He is, however, one of the most petulant midfielders in the country as this hissy fit in this year’s Campeonato Paulista demonstrates.
Brazil will be without a number of key players on Wednesday. Kaká, Lúcio, Luis Fabiano and Ramires are suspended. Robinho is injured.
