Brasileiro to go to right to the wire – title is Fluminense’s to throw away

Wins for the top three ensured that the Campeonato Brasileiro 2010 will be decided on the final day. Flu beat a lacklustre Palmeiras 2-1 in the Arena Barueri – see the goals. Corinthians put two past Vasco in the Pacaembu and Cruzeiro beat Flamengo 2-1 in Volta Redondo.
Next weekend, Fluminense are in poll position and need to see off relegated Guarani to lift their first title since 1984. Corinthians also face ‘Série B’ opposition as they travel to Goiás. Cruzeiro are at home to Palmeiras.
At the bottom, Guarani were condemned to the Second Division after a 3-0 home loss to Grêmio. Atlético Mineiro, Avaí and Flamengo secured their top flight status. The final place in the relegation zone will be fought out between Vitória and Atlético Goianiense who clash in Bahia on the final day.

Yes the championship is Fluminense’s to lose. At home vs an already relegated opponent. If they do not defeat Guarani then you do not deserve to be champions! But Fluminense will have to manage their nerves as much as anything else. If they do that their first title since 1984 will be their’s.
P.S. I am very happy to read that Elano is coming back to Santos. If they get some defensive help too then they could be well situated for the Libertadores. Jucilei has also said he will stay with Corinthians at least through the first 1/2 of 2011 in order to play in the Libertadores . He apparently has offers from several Italian clubs but they will have to wait for now.

Elano and Neymar will make Santos legitimate right away. I personally want to see Elano and Maicon back on the national team.
