Don’t worry Santos – help has arrived

The answer to all Santos’ current problems in the Campeonato Paulista has emerged with the arrival of Luiz Henrique and Douglas.

Midfielder Luiz Henrique from Paulista and goalkeeper, Douglas, from Sertãozinho.

Surely you must have heard of them?!

Well, they’ve been around a bit. Luiz Henrique, 22, has already appeared for giants América SP as well as Paulista. Douglas, 24, has played for titans such as Botafogo SP, Olímpia SP, Iraty, and Sertãozinho.

With three defeats and only one won from their first five games, Santos have got off to their worst start in ten years.

Clearly, the over reliance on youth products and cheap signings is not working at the Vila Belmiro.

In 2004, Corinthians went down the same road and were very fortunate not to get relegated.

It’s time the Santos directors helped out coach Emerson Leão by investing in some quality players. Otherwise the current holders will have no chance reaching the playoffs of the Paulista or worse, may find themselves in an embarrassing battle to avoid the drop

Hey, I just saw Douglas play for O Timão. The guy is straight money.

He’s a different Douglas. The one that Corinthians have is a midfielder and was just bought from São Caetano. Another excellent player who probably had the chance to sign with a club in the Libertadores but chose to appear in Série B. Though he’s probably getting paid well so who can blame him?!

The Santos Douglas is a keeper.
