Santos in deep trouble

santos-vs-rio-preto.jpgSantos hit a new low on Sunday after going down 2×1 at bottom club Rio Preto.

Winless Rio Preto had only one point to their name before kickoff but were still too good for a hapless Santos.

Nine games this season have produced a paltry eight points and Emerson Leão’s side are rooted firmly in the relegation zone.

The Vila Belmiro team have already lost five times and sit seven points behind the playoff places.

Santos are at home for their next two fixtures but this is not always the best place to be when the team are struggling. The Vila Belmiro is notorious for low gates and many of the fans that do show up are quick to turn on their side when things are going wrong.

Wednesday’s match vs Guarani is winnable – though that’s what everyone thought about the Rio Preto game! But Sunday’s meeting with Ituano could prove a bit tricky.

If Santos fail to take maximum points from these matches, it is almost certain that the club will be on the look out for a new coach.
