Campeonato Paulista: Guaratinguetá & Palmeiras make the semis

guaratingata.jpgThe penultimate round of the campeonato Paulista saw the first teams qualify for the next phase of the competition.

On Saturday Palmeiras booked their place and on Sunday Guaratinguetá returned to the top of the table and in so doing guaranteed themselves a semi-final slot.

Four teams, São Paulo, Ponte Preta, Corinthians and Barueri, will now fight it out for the remaining two spaces. Santos, though, are out after their run of six consecutive wins came to an end against bottom club Rio Claro. The only consolation for Santos is that Kléber Pereira put away his 12th of the year and became the league’s top scorer.

Round 18 also witnessed the first casualty of the campaign as Rio Claro crashed into Série A2.

Next week, only one from Juventus, Guarani, Rio Preto and Sertãozinho will survive.
