FPF confirm stadiums for the Campeonato Paulista finals

On Tuesday, the Paulista Football Federation (FPF) confirmed that Ponte Preta’s estádio Moisés Lucarelli and Palmeiras’ estádio Palestra Itália will be the venues for the finals of the Campeonato Paulista.

Ponte’s stadium has a tiny capacity of around 18,000 while Palmeiras’ arena will be limited to around the 30,000 mark.

The decision to use the Palestra Itália was made despite an incident involving a toxic substance that prevented São Paulo using their changing room at half-time in last Sunday’s semi-final against Palmeiras. The stadium was also plunged into darkness after the floodlights failed late in the second-half.

The Sport Tribunal (TJD) is carrying out an investigation into the incidents but has yet to reveal its findings. If the Tribunal find Palmeiras of some kind of misdemeanour, there is a good chance that the second leg will not be played in the Palestra Itália. São Paulo have already said that there are not keen on Palmeiras using the Morumbi. So, the game may be shifted to one of the bigger stadiums in the state of São Paulo.
