Cuca checks in at Santos
Santos have confirmed that the man to replace Emerson Leão will be former Botafogo coach, Cuca.
The 44 year old signed a contract that is expected to keep him at the Vila Belmiro until December 2009.
Cuca, whose real name is Alexis Stival, was a midfielder at Santos between 1993 and 95 scoring 16 goals in 46 appearances.
His coaching curriculum includes spells at Série A sides Goiás, São Paulo, Grêmio and Flamengo as well as Botafogo.
Cuca starts his new job on Thursday (5th June) and has said that his first task will be to evaluate the playing staff at his disposal.
Just three weeks into the Campeonato Brasileiro, 7 teams have already parted company with their coach.
The latest to go was Abel Braga who walked out on Internacional for a lucrative post with the UAE’s,
Al Jazira Club. Inter have yet to find a replacement but are said to be targeting São Paulo’s Muricy Ramalho and Coritiba’s Dorival Júnior. Other names on the wanted list are Levir Culpi who is in Japan and Toninho Cerezo who is working in the UAE.
