Flamengo fold but stay top

The 5×2 defeats for Cruzeiro against Palmeiras, and 4×2 loss for Flamengo versus São Paulo mean that after just six rounds there are no unbeaten teams in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

With those results, the situation at the top of the league has become even more compact. Now only four points separate the top seven.

Fla continue to lead but Grêmio and Cruzeiro share the same number of points.

After a rocky opening to the campaign, São Paulo and Palmeiras are now making their push on the leaders. The São Paulo based outfits plus Atlético Mineiro, were the biggest climbers this week moving up five places each.

Sport Recife and Botafogo on the other hand, dropped six places after their defeats at Figueirense and Internacional respectively.

Title hopefuls Santos and Fluminense are stuck firmly in the bottom four. Flu have fielded full-strength sides for the past two rounds. But six games have produced a miserable two points for the Rio side.

Once again it was a bumper round for goals with 34 flying in.
