Flamengo were outplayed by Atlético Mineiro in the estádio Maracanã on Saturday and ended up losing a crucial match 3-0.

A win would have seen Fla back in the Libertadores slots but now the Rio side are 3 adrift of a top 4 place and 7 behind leaders Grêmio.

Atlético youth player, Renan Oliveira, was outstanding once again but the goal of the day went to Bolivian, Castillo.

81,300 crammed into the stadium – the best gate in this year’s Brasileiro. But the majority of the Flamengo fans started leaving with 15 minutes to go after Leandro Almeida had made it 3-0 to the travellers. Atlético’s only away win before this match was at Santos.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Atlético Paranaense crashed into the relegation zone after losing their six-pointer against Fluminense 3-1. The results lifted Flu out of the bottom 4.

Goiás and Internacional drew 1-1 in Goiânia. The home side could have taken all 3 points but former Inter man, Iarley, missed a penalty.

I was at this game and it really was embarrassing for Flamengo, though Mineiro fully deserved the win. Jon I have written an article on this game at Just-Football, and would be interested to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
