Douglas Costa

Grêmio’s 18-year-old midfielder, Douglas Costa, has appeared just twice for his club and has scored one goal. But already the player is being connected with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Costa is a Grêmio youth product and has a contract until 2013. His buy out clause is in the region of US$40 million.

This week, former Manchester United man, Jaap Stam, was in Porto Alegre to see Grêmio’s 2-0 win over Santos. Stam, though, is here as part of the World Soccer Consult agency that has brought many young Brazilians, and other South Americans, to Europe and especially Holland. A note to the Manchester United fans: Henk Van Ginkel from World Soccer Consult has written to me saying that Jaap Stam was NOT in Brazil to watch Douglas Costa. he was here just to get a better idea of Brazilian football
