Denílson linked with Bolton

Former Brazil winger, Denílson, is a possible target for England’s Bolton Wanderers.

Denílson spent the bulk of 2008 at Palmeiras on a performance based contract. Despite being just 30 when he signed for the São Paulo club, Denílson clearly lacked pace during the early part of the year. As his form and fitness improved during the season there were occasional flashes of brilliance. But the player failed to find any consistency and was shown the door in December along with another 2002 World Cup medal winner, Roque Júnior.

The attacking midfielder came to fame with São Paulo in the mid 90s. A £21.5million transfer to Real Betis in 1998 made him the world’s most expensive footballer at the time. But since then it’s been pretty much all down hill for Denílson and even recent spells in Saudi Arabia and the USA failed to resurrect a flagging career.

While the left-footer still has an impressive array of tricks at his disposal, he would undoubtedly struggle with the speed and the physical demands of the game in the Premier League.

He might as well join MLS again… Aside from one brilliant goal he didn’t do very well for Palmeiras.
