A brace for Kléber Pereira

A brace for Kléber Pereira

Current Campeonato Paulista champions, Palmeiras, managed to take maximum points against newly-promoted Santo André on the opening day of the São Paulo state competition.

Debut boy Cleiton Xavier’s goal settled the affair but Palmeiras failed to find their rhythm and were very fortunate to come away with the win. Palmeiras are expected to give new boy, Keirrison, his first start vs Mogi Mirim in a game you can see with us on Saturday (17:00 local time).

Santos also picked up three points with a 2-0 victory at home to Guaratinguetá courtesy of two from the prolific Kléber Pereira.

São Paulo were held by Ituano 1-1 in the Morumbi. Hugo had given the home side the lead before the much-coveted central defender, Miranda, put the ball through his own net.

Corinthians also struggled. The Parque São Jorge outfit found themselves two goals down to Barueri in the estádio Pacaembu. But late strikes from Chicão and Jorge Henrique saved Corinthians from an embarrassing defeat. In our Sunday match, Corinthians are away at Bragantino who beat Botafogo SP 4-2.

Now with Keirrison as a striker leaving Diego “Sono” Souza to play further back and the possible arrival of Luiz Adriano from Shakhtar should improve Palmeiras offensively. Edmilson will definitely make a big difference at the back. I’m also interested to see Columbian Pablo Armero in action, as I was never a big of Jefferson, who missed some good chances on Wednesday. I was impressed with Lenny’s performance but he’ll have a lot of competition to stay on the first squad if Luiz Adriano is hired and when Marquinhos recovers.
