Santos drop points against Mirassol (in yellow)

Santos drop points against Mirassol (in yellow)

There’s a familiar look to the top of the Paulista with Palmeiras, São Paulo, and Corinthians and Santos occupying the playoff places.

On Tuesday, Palmeiras made it three wins out of three after seeing off Marília 3-0. Evandro, Cleiton Xavier and Lenny were on target. Palmeiras are away at Ponte Preta in our featured game on Sunday (17:00 local time).

São Paulo were flattered by the 2-0 win away at lively Guarani. For the second match in a row, Washington forced an opposition player to put the ball in his own net (this time it was Plínio). Hernanes killed off the game when he scored São Paulo’s second against the run of play.

Corinthians once again stuttered against inferior opponents. But Chicão (penalty) and Diogo’s goals were enough to see off Botafogo. Corinthians are back in the Pacaembu on Saturday when they take on new boys Oeste in a match we will be covering (17:00).

Thursday, saw Roni notch his first for Santos against Mirassol in the Vila Belmiro. Santos were heading for another three points until two minutes into stoppage time Wesley’s long range effort salvaged a point for the travellers.

São Caetano dropped their first points of the campaign after losing 1-0 at home to Barueri. Alongside Barueri; Mogi Mirim, Santo André and Portuguesa also picked up their first wins of the tournament after beating Paulista FC, Ponte Preta and Bragantino respectively.
