Arouca and André Santo in the Morumbi

In a dreadfully bad game in the Pacaembu, a second-string Palmeiras team kept their side’s impressive run going with a 1-0 win over lowly Paulista FC.

Evandro got the only goal late in the second-half. Palmeiras have won all seven of their outings in the Campeonato Paulista. The regular first team already in Quito for a meeting with LDU in the Libertadores

The big derby of the weekend saw São Paulo and Corinthians drew 1-1 in a poor match in the Morumbi. São Paulo face Medellin in the Libertadores and so rested a number of starters. Corinthians’ Túlio was sent off in the first-half after ‘punching’ André Dias in the stomach. But the São Paulo defender’s over-reaction was instrumental in getting Túlio red-carded. The game then went down hill rapidly with both sets of players guilty of serial diving and play-acting. Despite having an extra man, Muricy Ramalho’s men continued to struggle. And it wasn’t until Wagner Diniz was sent off for a second yellow that São Paulo finally woke up. Hernanes, Dagoberto and Borges combined for a well-worked goal. But Corinthians were back on level terms when Boquita put André Santos in and the left-back lifted the ball over the advancing Bosco. The goal scorer then received his marching orders after getting a second card. See the highlights here

Portuguesa have now moved up to 4th after Edno scored the only goal away at Botafogo.

Santos’ new coach, Vágner Mancini, was in the stands to see his team win 3-1 against Guarani. The ex Vitória man watched as Madson, Fabão and Paulo Henrique scored to pick up a much-needed three points for the beleagured club. See the goals here

Barueri and Santo André both had their wins clipped over the weekend. Barueri lost 2-1 at home to an improving Mirassol. Santo André were thumped 4-0 by Guaratinguetá.
