Two goals from Paraguayan forward, Ortigoza, put Palmeiras into the playoffs of the Campeonato Paulista. The strikes came against Bragantino in the estádio Palestra Itália were the Vadão had to come from behind after Jeci had put the ball into his own net. Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s team, though, cannot relax as finishing top of the league stage will give them a huge advantage in the semi-finals.

Corinthians remain second after a 2-2 draw with Ponte Preta in the Pacaembu.  The Campinas side had gone one up after Leandrinho beat the offside trap and then lobbed the stranded Felipe. Corinthians came back when Gum was adjudged to have brought down Ronaldo in the box. The pie-eating forward made no mistake from the spot kick. Corinthians number 9 then scored an excellent goal after latching on to Alessandro’s pass. But Ponte Preta salvaged a point after a header by centreback, Gum.

São Paulo took the lead away at Noroeste after Washington netted his tenth of the competition. Jorge Wagner then doubled the advantage. São Paulo keeper, Rogério Ceni, thought he’d stopped Marcelinho’s effort entering the net, but the officials ruled that the ball had crossed the line

4th placed Portuguesa kept their playoff hope alive with a 2-2 draw with Mirassol. Portuguesa, though, were trailing late into the second-half until forward Fabrício Carvalho punched the ball into the net for a late equalizer. Mirassol’s players’ appeals went unheard and the goal stood.

Santos won their six-pointer against playoff rivals Santo André. Neymar set up Madson for the first. Leftback, Triguinho, made it 2-0. And then Neymar found the net from close range after Madson managed to stop the ball from going out of play. The result left Santos in 5th; one place above Santo André.
