Former Brazil midfielder, Juninho Paulista, is close to signing a deal with Middlesbrough that could see him acting as the club’s representative and scout in Latin America.

The 36-year-old had three spells at the club between 1995 and 2004. He retired from football after a season with Sydney FC last year.

If he does take the role on, two of Juninho’s early recommendations could be the much-coveted Neymar and Keirrison.

You can see our exclusive interview with Juninho on next week’s FootBrazil.

Very interesting, shame it will be for a Championship club.

    Hi Jon

Hope all is well. I’ll be back in Rio in July but I’m less than confident about Flamengo’s prospects this season.

Maybe an English club will employ me as a scout. I could recommend Neymar and Keirrison to them as well.

By the way, hope you’ve checked out the 4th division table. If Forest don’t get their act together, we could be meeting again.

I love the idea of Juninho simply idly scanning the blog and reporting back to England…”Yeah, there’s this bloke Hernanes who is worth a look” and then pocketing a fat cheque!

he didn’t want to do the interview for us (on Footrazil) because he thought his English wasn’t quite up to it. but i’m sure his reading skills are ok and he’ll be checking out this site every day haha
Juninho (or his dad – not sure which) has a pizza place in São Paulo. so, maybe he’ll be stuffing his face with one hand and be on the blower to Boro with the other!
