League leaders Atlético Mineiro had to come from behind to beat Santos 3-2 in the Vila Belmiro. And with Internacional slipping up away at Flamengo, Celso Roth’s team were able to open up a three point gap at the top.

Neymar scored his first goal in the Brasileiro for Santos on the stroke of half-time. The Belo Horizonte club responded with strikes from Diego Tardelli, Evandro and Carlos Alberto. Léo made it interesting near full-time but it was far too late.

At the start of the year, many (including myself) were tipping Atlético to be amongst the strugglers. But that all changed with the arrival of Celso Roth. The coach has turned a band of rejects into an effective unit. The question is can Atlético keep it up until December? See the goals

Inter’s unbeaten record went for a Burton after they were trounced 4-0 in the Maracanã by Flamengo. With several key players missing, Inter were never really in this in Rio. Adriano grabbed a hat-trick. Emerson got the other in a match that Fla controlled right from the kick off. See the goals

Vitória kept their good run going with a 4-3 home win over Botafogo.

Keirrison grabbed a dramatic stoppage time equalizer to earn Palmeiras a point in the 2-2 draw away at bottom side Atlético Paranaense. See the goals

Corinthians moved to 5th after they crushed league champions São Paulo 3-1 in the Pacaembu. Ricardo Gomes takes over on Monday and he will have his work cut out restoring confidence at the Morumbi. The result left São Paulo just one place above the relegation zone. See the highlights

Avaí finally picked up their first win of the season thanks to Léo Gago’s spectacular late, late winners versus Fluminense. See the highlights
