Deportivo La Coruña leftback, Filipe Luís, has been drafted in to replace Real Madrid’s Marcelo for the friendly international against Estonia on August 12th.

The 23-year-old was brought in after Marcelo picked up an ankle injury.

Even though UEFA picked him out as Spain’s best leftback in the 2008/2009 season, Filipe Luís is something of an unknown in his native Brazil.

Filipe Luís Kasmirski started his career at Figueirense in 2003 but was on his way to Holland and Ajax within a year. He had a brief spell with Real Madrid’s B team in 2006 before moving to Deportivo La Coruña. His current side have apparently already turned down an offer of around €10 million from Barcelona for the player.

Been hearing plenty about him through the Spanish league but Depor’s games are few and far between on Sky in the UK. Will look forward to seeing him in a Brazil shirt – that left back spot looks a bit of an iffy one for the moment given how strong they are at right full-back.
