34 goals flew in in the opening round of the Campeonato Paulista 2010.
The highest score was at the Palestra Itália were Palmeiras hammered Mogi Mirim 5-1. Diego Souza struck twice. Léo, the on-loan centreback from Grêmio, Robert and Cleiton Xavier also hit the net. Geovane managed Mogi’s consolation goal.
Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso were Santos’ heroes versus Rio Branco grabbing a brace a-piece against the newly-promoted side.
Bragantino and Ituano also pulled off 4-0 wins against Oeste and Mirassol respectively.
Corinthians took on Série A debut boys Atlético Monte Azul in the estádio Santa Cruz. The Musketeers were without Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and several other big names but still boasted a powerful squad. Iarley was easily Corinthians best player and it was no surprise to see him score in his first game for the club. But former Corinthians man, Rafael Fefo forced an equalizer for the team playing their first ever match in the elite of the Paulista.
São Paulo’s newly-reinforced team ended up with egg on their faces after losing 3-1 at home to Portuguesa. Ricardo Gomes’ men had taken the lead through the returning old boy, Marcelinho Paraiba. But two goals from Héverton and a strike from ex São Paulo player, Marco Antônio ensured the surprise result of the round.
