Grafite takes Adriano's place in the Brazil squad
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) today announced Brazil’s preliminary squad for the World Cup in South Africa. 23 players have made the provisional cut. The CBF will also release details of a further seven ‘reserves’ later today. Brazil will begin training in Curitiba on the 21st of this month and Dunga has until June 1st to finalize the 23 players he’ll be taking to the World Cup.
Despite the clamour for their inclusion, Santos men Neymar and Paulo Henrique Lima, have been ignored. There’s also no room for Grêmio keeper, Victor; São Paulo defender, Miranda; Ronaldinho Gaúcho or Alexandre Pato. Adriano’s absence should come as no surprise. The target man has missed training 14 times at Flamengo and is unfit and out of form. Wolfburg’s Grafite has taken his place.

Wingbacks: Maicon (Inter Milan), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Gilberto (Cruzeiro),
Michel Bastos (Lyon)
Centrebacks: Juan (Roma), Lúcio (Inter Milan), Luisão (Benfica), Thiago Silva (AC Milan)
Midfielders: Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Josué (Wolfsburg), Felipe Melo (Juventus), Kaká (Real Madrid), Ramires (Benfica), Elano (Galatasaray), Julio Baptista (Roma), Kleberson (Flamengo),
Forwards: Robinho (Santos), Nilmar (Villarreal), Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Grafite (Wolfsburg)
Dunga and co could be in for a tough time in the group stage. Group G consists of Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast and North Korea and will not be an easy ride for the South Americans. Brazil kick off their campaign against North Korea in the Ellis Park stadium in Johannesburg on 15th June. Five days later, they take on Ivory Coast – a side that includes Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, YaYa and Kolo Touré. Brazil’s final game is against Portugal on 25th.

Is that the same Gilberto who had such an unsuccessful spell at Tottenham?
If so, I can’t believe that he made the squad – he looked well out of his depth in the very few games he played in England.

i think we need ronaldinho. He has improved much this season to get fit and back on track. I would like dunga to drop kleber and put in another striker or creative midfielder i mean come on melo hasnt put his best foot foward he been the worst player on juventus this season. What do you think john?

It is the same Gilberto who was at Tottenham. The other Gilberto in the squad is Gilberto Silva, it was him who was at Arsenal.

if you look at Brazilian midfielders, there are not creative and skillful players that is why we need player like Ronaldinho. Players like Julio Baptista, Grafite, Kleberson, Bostos does not deserve to be in the team while you have the like of Pato, Thiago Motta, Neymar, eduado carlos, dieago etc. Dunga wake up from your sleep

ronaldinho should be there, his fast feet, excellent passing, great skills, he will be a real miss for the brazil squad, robinho is horrid and should be replaced by pato, dunga needs to wake up and realise this is no friendly match, this is a world cup, i reckon this team could go out in the first round.

Looking at the players chosen to represent the brazilian team..it looks like a soup with out the most important ingredients.The likes of Ronaldo and Ronaldinho are missed ..I cant see why these two great players are not in the squad?? they r players who can make miracles in fball.So plz dunga at least take them with you in the reserves and they will show the world what they are capable of doing.

Instant overview of the team:
Keepers are OK. You can throw either Julio Cesar or Gomes to the game aganist any team in the world.
Wingbacks: right side seems to be in good hand even in the case someone get injured. But the left side weakens alarm. Gilberto in the team! The worst ever left back in Spurs. He is now in his mid-30’s and wouldn’t become any better. Has he used stereoids or eaten kind of a sneak soap to perform good enough to be selcted in the team? Another option Bastos has a good shot, if not accurate. Ant that’s all to say of him.
In the heart of the defence there are no problems. But if the opponent has a tendency to counter-attack the slow and rugged defenders are in trouble, especially in one-on-one situations.
Midfield is basically the same it has been during Dungas era. All except Kaka are defence-minded and not too clever with the ball. I would have expected one or two younger players or players with fresh and surprising calibre of breaking down rock-solid defences. With these selected players Brazil is in trouble when the opponents score the first goal.
Elano, Josue and Ramires are not players to be remembered about their outstanding skills. Modern foorball requires players who can beat their opponents, otherwise you can’t find space in the midfield. If you can’t find a better team than Galatasaray to show your talent, you shouldn’t be picked to Selecao. Julio Baptista (!), his selection must be a sign of some kind of conspiracy against Brazilian traditions: JB has the skills of Norwegian fisher and elasticy of Russian coal miner. Honestly, I have to admit that I hope him get mildly injured before the kick off…
Forwards are OK, because LF is in the team. Perhaps Nilmar should be played alongside him, because Robinho fades away too often in important matches. Grafite has had a difficult season and I would be surprised if he plays more than a minute.
To put it short: too much defenders in midfield and weak left side. The elimination in the first round from difficult group is not out of imagination, but with their scrutiny they’ll survive, but sadly to say at last in the semi’s Brazil would be out.
I really hope I’m wrong..

dunga u r making a very very huge mistake by leaving the greatest entertainers soccers have to offer.goalies r good,right back is solid.u have a very serious problem on the left side that u r not taking seriously.it seem to me that u r taking this world cup to be a joke.i still can’t believe that u r leaving players like (ronaldinho,pato,andriano,thiago motta,diego,eduado,neymar,)out of the world cup.nilmar and fabiano are excellent choices u don’t need the rest.in midfield i only c kaka,elano,and maybe melo,u don’t need the rest.think like a brazilian and bring out the quality of soccer that brazil have to offer.we wanna c system,movement,and ball articulation not trial n error cuz it will not hold.please reconsider.

I thought Brazil would have done better with the squad they took to South Africa but the signs were there even in an easy group when they made hard work of North Korea.
