Brazil to face Iraq in October 2012
The Brazilian Football Confederation has announced that Brazil will play Iraq in Malmö, Sweden, on 11th October. Iraq are currently led by former Brazil midfielder, Zico. The game comes five days before the South Americans take on Japan in Poland.
The fixtures are part of the Seleção’s preparations for the Confederations Cup in Brazil next year and the World Cup in 2014. But the quality of recent opposition has left a lot to be desired and many are questioning why Brazil are playing so many fixtures that simply do not test Mano Menezes’ team. Brazil squeezed past South Africa (a side ranked 74th in the world) 1-0, before hammering China (78th) 8-0. Japan are ranked 23rd, while Iraq are in 78th place.
