Brazil coach Mano Menezes has finalized the 23 players that will be heading to Argentina for the Copa America. The announcement came directly after Brazil’s 1-0 win over Romania in a friendly international at the Pacaembu on Tuesday night. From the 28 man squad that were included for the games against Holland and Romania out go Fábio and Jefferson (keepers), Henrique, Anderson and Thiago Neves (midfielders) and Leandro Damião and Nilmar (forwards).

The coach, though, has gambled on the fitness of Paulo Henrique Ganso and Alexandre Pato in the hope that they will be ready for Brazil’s start in just under a month. If Ganso or Pato fail to be fit in time or any other player gets injured, Menezes does have the option of changing his squad before the competition gets underway.

Brazil are in Group B along with Venezuela, Paraguay and Ecuador. Menezes’ men start their campaign versus Venezuela in La Plata on 3rd July.

The squad in full
Keepers: Jefferson (Botafogo), Julio César (Inter Milan), Victor (Grêmio)
Wingbacks: Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Maicon (Inter Milan), André Santos (Fenerbahçe), Adriano (Barcelona)
Centrebacks: Lúcio (Inter Milan), David Luiz (Chelsea), Luisão (Benfica), Thiago Silva (Milan)
Midfielders: Ramires (Chelsea), Lucas Leiva (Liverpool), Sandro (Tottenham), Elano (Santos), Elias (Atlético Madrid), Paulo Henrique Ganso (Santos), Jadson (Shakhtar Donetsk), Lucas (São Paulo)
Forwards: Neymar (Santos), Robinho (AC Milan), Fred (Fluminense), Alexandre Pato (AC Milan)

not even sure fred is better than rafael he-man moura much less damiano. and now that kaka is fit he could have taken a flyer on him but mano has the right to pick his squad let us hope they don’t let him down

The exclusion of Marcelo still baffles me. He must’ve upset someone. I think he’s easily Brazil’s best option at left-back.

i dont see why people are still talking about Kaka and Ronaldhino. They are great players but you got to understand the younger players need their time . Kaka and ronaldhino will prob not play in the next world cup so they have to prepare the next players.

leaving players like kaka & ronaldinho brazil will fail coz a team also need experience.

Kaka has hardly reached top form from recovering from his injuries and still needs time a good pre-season will sort that. And come on Ronaldinho has hardly showed the hunger to get back in the selecao, shame not to see Hulk in the squad not many Brazilians have had a better season, also Hernanes of SS Lazio… And Marcelo plays at left back for one of the best squads in the world strange hes still not included especially when i don’t see what andre santos offers???

Leandro Damião really impressed me when i went to the scotland game here in London so thats a shame. Is Fred really the number 9

Thats the all point, he wants the young onse to learn from their mistake now and not in important thing like the world cup. The reason i think he took andre Santos is because Santos is more reliable in defense than Marcelo. I mean if you already have Alves or Maicon going up and down in the right there is no need for that in the left.

course theres every need in the leftside being strong….
remember Cafu and roberto Carlos??? Branco and Jorginho of 94
And the generations of overflanking attacking wingbacks brasil have had before my time.
And andre santos isnt on the young side, more worth takiing filipe Luis of Atletico if your making a point…

Great input Mohammed ‘not’ i do watch our matches but were not the best, we couldnt beat the netherlands and I believe Spain are on another planet right now. MR menezes has alot of work to do, I believe hes doing the right things with the youngsters but maybe missing a few experienced players that really should be definites.

The coach should be aware that a brasilian team without a free kick specialist. defenders that are not good in areal balls can not win any tornament. Again if the team lacks a point man, a prolific striker the team cannot win .so the coach should be aware of this fact. This is what the 2010 squad lacked and that is why the team lost

Marcelo is better than Adriano in the position of left wing back.,he is excellent in sprint he can also make some counter attacking situation. He proved in real Madrid in the last season.
why coach doesn’t consider our great play maker k aka in this tournament?

The coach, why don’t include Kaka coze he has xperienc shoting out of the box. Anyways brazil will be the winer. For those who write & admire Ronaldiniho, his time is completed with not good performanc. Now a day i xpect Pato, Neymar for 2014.

Brazil is a force to recogne with as far as the game of football is concern bcos of her abundant talent and PEDIGREE (the yellow and blue colors always very intimidating). It is very glaring that Marcelo, Hulk, Nene, Bastos and kaka are missing. In terms of performance last season, alves, luiz, sylva and marcelo with jefferson in goal will be cool for a defence line. The mid-field needs Bastos, kaka’s presence, Nene and others. Hulk could have brought back good memories of Adriano. Neymar, Robinho and Pato are endorsed. A sick Fabiano is far better than Fred who cannot be compared with Ronaldo. Ronaldinho’s exclusion is not a suprise. Well, every coach has his reasons as selection is always a problem in teams filled with stars, as in Argentina and Brazil in 2002 and 2006 world cups. The coach of brazil got all wrong, choosen mainly base on the league he understand n overlooking few potentials is wrong again.
Brazil r blessd with bunch of talent in d game no doubt about that but to left out players like
    Hulk (porto),
    Kaka n marcello (madrid),
    Bastos (lyon),
    Fabiano (sevilla),
Nene n so on makes me question d ability of d coach.
Finger cross ,we see hw far is new look brazilian team goes
