Flamengo's Juan

Flamengo

In what may be his last act as coach (fingers crossed!), Dunga and the Brazilian Football Confederation announced the squad for Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Chile September on 7th in Santiago and Bolivia three days later in Rio de Janeiro

Nine of the players that won the Bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics have been included. They are: Renan, Jô, Rafinha, Alex Silva, Lucas, Anderson, Diego, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Rafael Sóbis.

Alexandre Pato had a bad tournament and has been dropped.

Brazil will be without AC Milan’s Kaká, who is recovering from injury. But Robinho is back in the fold.

The biggest surprise is the inclusion of Santos leftback Kléber – his team are currently in the bottom four in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Flamengo leftback, Juan, gets his first call-up.

The squad in full:

Keepers: Júlio César (Inter Milan), Renan (Valencia).
Wingbacks: Maicon (Inter Milan), Rafinha (Schalke 04), Kleber (Santos), Juan (Flamengo).
Centrebacks: Lúcio (Bayern Munich), Juan (Roma), Luisão (Benfica). Alex Silva (São Paulo).
Defensive midfielders: Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Lucas (Liverpool), Elano (Manchester City), Josué (Wolfsburg), Anderson (Manchester United)
Attacking midfielders: Diego (Werder Bremen), Júlio Baptista (Roma), Ronaldinho Gaúcho (AC Milan)
Forwards: Robinho (Manchester City), Luís Fabiano (Seville), Rafael Sóbis (Betis), Jô (Manchester City)

For those checking out this site via Blue Moon; Elano is regarded here in Brazil as a ‘volante’, which is more of a defensive midfielder – though the term is quite loose and many ‘volantes’ are in fact quite skilfull and attack-minded players

Wagner Love is currently twiddling his thumbs at CSKA Moscow. i imagine that Dunga thought he had better playes at his disposal

good squad with experience individuals, the defender must keep the ball from the net as strikers should score more when they face the hard team chile

Is Ro-looney-binho going to start a game for a change?

I bet he’s missing Danny Mills already.

It’s funny that I am a Brazilian Manchester City fan for a few years now, and was ecstatic when Elano arrived, and then the news of Jo, and now Robinho…I never thought that they would all play on the national team and Man City at the same time…GO MAN CITY!

Anderson should still be on the squad….and Pato…oh well Dunga better win and get the players back to England asap.

    VIVA SELECAO BRASILEIRA!
