São Paulo turn down new Manchester United offer of £29 million for Lucas Moura

São Paulo have stunned everybody in the football world by refusing Manchester United`s increased offer for their Brazil midfielder Lucas Moura.
United are reported to have tabled £29 million (€ 38 million) for the player who is with Brazil’s Olympic squad in London.
While the decision to hang on to Moura has surprised everyone, São Paulo are under pressure to win silverware as arch-enemies Corinthians have just picked up the Libertadores and Palmeiras have won the Copa do Brasil.
São Paulo’s decision will also anger Moura’s representatives who are eager to cash in on the 19-year-old.  The player is also demanding a huge pay rise from São Paulo and the latest rejection of United’s offer may not be the end of the saga.
A growing number of São Paulo’s fans are also baffled by the announcement. While Moura’s talent is recognized, he’s yet to perform well on a regular basis and after two years with the club, has failed to help them to any silverware.
On Friday, Brazil take on Team GB in a friendly. Coach Mano Menezes has already named his starting line-up and Loura will begin on the bench.

Please don’t take this as any slight on you or your article. I am struggling to maintain belief in this saga, however, especially given the amount of money being discussed.

The tone of your piece suggests otherwise, but can this youngster really be so good that both United would offer and São Paulo would turn down £29 million?

Even today, that could buy a slightly older, but more proven and experienced, alternative option.
